I cannot believe I am writing about the third Wales Green Energy Awards. It seems like only a few weeks ago I was telling you about the first ones. Anyway, time has marched on and they are now upon us again and there are just over three weeks to get your entry in – the closing date is Friday 3 July. The awards, organised by RenewableUK Cymru, celebrate the achievements of the green energy industry in Wales. They are open to both individuals and organisations. Winners will be announced in an awards ceremony on Friday 5 November in St David’s Hotel in Cardiff.
Dr David Clubb, director of RenewableUK Cymru, said: “In the face of some severe economic headwinds, and not a little political oppugnancy from certain political parties, the green energy sector remains one of the very few growth areas for the UK.
“Wales has a long way to go until it fulfils its potential, but we are increasingly seeing innovation, good practice and strong collaboration in Wales. We await what will undoubtedly be a strong set of nominations for this years’ awards.”
The eight categories in the Wales Green Energy Awards are:
- Engaging the Community sponsored by The Waterloo Foundation
- Supply Chain Development sponsored by Vattenfall
- Outstanding Renewable Energy Project sponsored by Welsh Government
- Contribution to Skills & Training sponsored by The Crown Estate
- Best use of renewable energy in the Public Sector
- Outstanding Advocate sponsored by RWE Innogy UK
- Renewable Energy Start-up sponsored by Raymond Brown Renewables
- Best Politician
More information about each of the categories and how to enter is available here. Entries can be completed online and it is free to enter. Organisations and individuals can enter as many categories as they want. You can also nominate a person or organisation for any of the categories. A shortlist will be drawn up by RenewableUK Cymru, which will then be judged by an independent panel. The judges’ decision is final. Shortlisted entries will be informed after the closing date.

- Best use of renewable energy in the Public Sector – Partnerships for Renewables Oakdake Business Park Wind Energy Project, Caerphilly County Borough
- Outstanding Advocate – Dan McCallum, Awel Aman Tawe, Neath Port Talbot
- Renewable Energy Start-up – Egni
